Best Budget Earbuds and Headphones for Commuting in 2026
A commute is hard on audio gear. Earbuds get dropped on train platforms, headphones get crushed in backpacks, and cases go missing. That's why we don't think most people should take a $250 to $400 pair on the bus every day. A good budget pair blocks enough noise, lasts all week on a charge, and won't hurt much if you lose it.
We checked every price below on Amazon this morning (November 2, 2026), straight from the buy box, and only included products that are in stock right now. One of them, the Soundcore P20i, just dropped from $39.99 to $22.99. For more cheap picks across all categories, see our best tech deals under $50 page.

What matters for a commute
- Noise cancelling (ANC). Train and bus noise is mostly low-frequency rumble, which ANC handles well. It also lets you listen at a lower volume, which is better for your hearing.
- Battery life. Two 45-minute trips a day add up. Aim for at least a full week of commuting between charges, counting the case.
- Transparency mode. You need to hear station announcements and traffic. Earbuds without it mean taking one out every time.
- Price you can afford to lose. Commuting is where most earbuds go missing. Cheap matters more here than at a desk.
Beats Studio Buds+ (True Wireless, ANC)
Price today: $99.95, 41% below the $169.95 list price, sold by Amazon. Rated 3.9 out of 5 from 8,098 reviews.
If you want real noise cancelling in something that fits in a jacket pocket, this is the pick. The Studio Buds+ cut out engine rumble well, the transparency mode sounds natural enough to hear an announcement without taking them out, and they pair in one tap with an iPhone or quickly with an Android phone. Battery life is up to about 9 hours with ANC off, and the case adds more. The rating is lower than our other picks, mostly because of fit: some people with smaller ears find them loose. Read our full take in are the Beats Studio Buds+ worth it in 2026.
- Effective ANC and natural transparency mode
- Works with both iPhone and Android
- Small case, easy to pocket
- Sold and shipped by Amazon
- Lowest rating of the three (3.9 stars)
- No wireless charging
- Fit is mixed for smaller ears
Soundcore by Anker Q20i Hybrid ANC Headphones
Price today: $44.99, 36% below the $69.99 list price, sold by AnkerDirect. Rated 4.5 out of 5 from 78,832 reviews.
Over-ear headphones block more noise than earbuds simply because they cover your ears, and the Q20i adds hybrid active noise cancelling on top. For under $45 you get long battery life (Anker rates it at up to 40 hours with ANC on), a transparency mode and app EQ. They fold up, so they fit in a bag. They won't match a Sony WH-1000XM5 for call quality or comfort over a long flight, but for a daily train ride they cover most of what matters at about a fifth of the price.
- Strong ANC for the price
- Very long battery life
- Over 78,000 reviews, 4.5 stars
- Folds for a bag
- Bulky compared with earbuds
- Plastic build
- Mic quality is just okay for calls
- Sold by AnkerDirect, not Amazon
Soundcore by Anker P20i True Wireless Earbuds
Price today: $22.99, 43% below the $39.99 list price and down from $39.99 when we checked yesterday. Sold by AnkerDirect. Rated 4.4 out of 5 from 118,505 reviews.
This is the pair you won't worry about losing. The P20i is not noise cancelling, so it won't silence a loud train, but the in-ear seal blocks a fair amount of background noise on its own. You get bass-heavy sound, an app with an EQ, and up to about 30 hours of total playtime with the case. At $22.99 it also works as a backup pair to keep in a work bag. It's the biggest audio price drop we found this morning.
- Down $17 since yesterday
- Over 118,000 reviews, 4.4 stars
- Long total battery life with the case
- Cheap enough to lose
- No active noise cancelling
- No transparency mode
- Bass-heavy tuning out of the box
- Sold by AnkerDirect, not Amazon
What about Sony and AirPods?
We checked the Sony WH-1000XM5 and AirPods Pro 2 this morning too. Neither had a normal Amazon buy box with an add-to-cart button today; only third-party or used offers showed up. Premium noise cancelling is worth it if you fly often or commute for more than an hour each way, but buy it new from Amazon or Apple when it's back in stock and on sale. Before you do, read things to know before buying the Sony WH-1000XM5. With Black Friday less than four weeks away, waiting on premium headphones is a reasonable choice.
The bottom line
If you want one pair that does it all on a commute, get the Beats Studio Buds+ at $99.95. If you'd rather have the most noise blocking for the least money, the Soundcore Q20i at $44.99 is the best value over-ear option we track. And if you just need cheap, reliable earbuds you won't cry over, the Soundcore P20i at $22.99 is the easiest buy this week. For more price-checked deals, see our weekly deals page.
